Tips for Working From Home
Sooooooo when the clock struck 12 am 🕕 on Jan 1st 2020 who would of thought 2 months later, we would be practicing social distancing, quarantining in our homes, wearing masks to go to the grocery store, no March Madness or NBA playoffs, or their would be a TP shortage, we would not be able to see our seniors in nursing homes, job loss, or furloughed, or one becoming work from home and then having to home school your children (insert whatever cussword you see fit) Well this is our new normal COVID 19 has changed our lives in a matter of 2 months in the new decade of 2020!
In my current job role, at CVS Health I worked from home on Mondays and Fridays, now I am working from home indefinitely it was a slight adjustment for me because my day to day routine was disrupted but for those that are not used to working from home, I want to give you some tips on working from home.
First, you will have to create a work space, if you don’t have a home office already or desk at home, first thing you need to do is create a work space, set it up just like your desk or cubicle at work. Below is a pic of my home office. (Now if you don’t have the space or room to have an office) use what you got a card table, or kitchen table, it is about creating a space to work.
Second, get ready as if you were going to work, shower, groom as normal put on some comfy clothes eat breakfast, keep the same “get ready routine” as if you were going into the office. Don’t stay in bed!!! I get up every morning, as if I am leaving to go to work, I don’t do a full face of make-up or hair, but I prepare myself that I am getting ready to work, even though I am at home.
Third log on and begin to work, keep distractions off like the TV. If you didn’t have the TV on at work don’t have it on at home. I suggest listening to music or podcasts. Whatever you did at work do at home, take 15 min breaks, take your same 30 min or 1 hour lunch 🥗 make your lunch, take a walk around your block or neighborhood to get some fresh air, your steps, and blood flowing.
Fourth LOG OUT just because you are working from home doesn’t mean you have to continue to work unless you absolutely have to or want to, end your day as you normally would as if you were in the office if you are off at 5p log out at 5p, don’t over work yourself. Our mental health is just as important as our physical health so don’t neglect yourself. I don’t know who’s quote this is but, “You can’t pour from an empty cup”.
You may not like working from home but look at the benefits from working from home!
1) Flexibility 🤸🏾♀️ I can do a load of laundry or take a nap
2) Saving money on gas ⛽️
3) No rush hour traffic 🚗 or road rage 😡 or risk of accidents (praise dance)
4) Saving money from eating out for lunch or daily Starbucks crave 🥙 💰
5) Less stress or anxiety from office politics or toxic morale 🙃 (Peace)
Now some people do not have the luxury of staying home, because they are vital to our community like doctors, 👩🏽⚕️ nurses 👨🏽⚕️ and all the supportive staff like aides and housekeeping, who are keeping hospitals running. Also our stores 🏬 and pharmacies who are so valuable not just during this pandemic but all the time. Thank you 😊 to our essential community!
I hope these tips helped you in some way. I don’t know if we will go back to our old normal, but embrace and bask in our new normal until we can get back to being SOCIAL again! I can’t wait to go to BRUNCH..LOL
