Quarantine Life: Social Distancing Our New Normal
Sooooooo the Coronavirus 🦠 has taken over our lives in a matter of 2 weeks the stock market has taken a 20,000 point dive, the NBA has been cancelled, the MLB Spring training has been cancelled, the NCAA tournament has been cancelled, schools has been dismissed indefinitely, restaurants have gone from dine in to carry out only, and people have gone from day to day in office to working remotely from home or unemployed all together. We have gone from Brunch on Sunday’s to DJ DNice IG Live #ClubQuarantine from in person gatherings to gathering virtually social distancing has become our new normal in 2020!
The Coronavirus has caused disbelief, panic, anxiety, conspiracy theories, Costco lines and a shortage of TP 🧻 and our government (sigh) 😐 are at odds with testing, stimulus packages, and unemployment benefits. This pandemic maybe be an introverts dream but extroverts are losing their minds..lol So we are 3 months into 2020 and it has changed our lives so much so we are confined to our homes for 2-8weeks.
2020 needs a reset button (Breath) 😯
How do you keep a routine while practicing social distance? Here are some key aspects for an everyday routine and support.
Stay Active
Walk around your neighborhood, ride a 🚴🏾♀️bike or do in-home exercises 🤸🏾♀️ chores around the house, those DIY (Do It Yourself) projects you don’t have time for WELP 🤷🏾♀️ you got time today, tomorrow and the day after that.
Stay connected
Not a fan of social media well technology is making it easier for all of us to stay connected without being in the same room together. WebEx, Zoom or FaceTime are some tools you can use especially for our seniors who is at a higher risk of contracting the Coronavirus. Can’t visit grandma 👵🏾 but you can FaceTime her. Just touching base with a call, text or virtual tool can make isolation more bearable. 🙃
Stay Healthy
Not just physically healthy but mentally healthy and stable, ok you are eating right, taking your vitamins, staying active, but you may have some anxiety, fear, financial worries or conspiracy theories 🙇🏾♀️ first just log off whatever you are watching or reading that is making you feel this way disconnect from it.
Read or watch something positive or uplifting, Meditate, 🧘🏾♂️Pray, 🙏🏾or Journal 📓 write out your thoughts and concerns and seek help from a licensed therapist 👩🏾💼Teledoc.com, TalkSpace.com or any of the other Telehealth platforms your insurance supports can provide you therapy. You can access Telehealth services through your health insurance see if it is covered or if their are any fees associated with it. If no fees are associated with it great, but if therapy will be a major financial burden 💸 their are safe spaces like private group chats on Facebook like Therapy for Black Girls or Therapy for Black Men.
As you practice social distancing remember to be active, be connected and stay healthy!
